Sorry I haven't written sooner.
I spent some time in Peru awhile back. I took two trips back to back with two completely different groups. Usually after these trips I write in detail about the suffering I saw or the tremendous need for eyeglass correction or about the hundreds or even the thousands of people who wait in line for days to see us or about the hardships that extreme poverty causes that used to so easily knock me off my feet. But I don't want every blog to sound the same so this time I'll try to be a little different.
So lets just say I did see poverty, lots of it. I did see suffering and hardships, lots of it. This is just the way it is in most third world countries. You see we live a wonderful existence, full of privilege, safety and abundance.
Most the world does not.
As with most other trips we helped several hundred people to see better. Some of those can now read once again, some are seeing clearly for the first time in their life. Overall we probably helped give comfort to some people and perhaps even made some of their lives a tad bit better or at least easier than before.
But this time I realized God's Eyes is really the dog and pony show for what really happens on these trips. Yes we may attract some people to show up but these trips really are not about eyeglasses or opening eyes they are all about opening hearts and God is the only one who does that. On these trips 162 hearts were opened and the bottom line is
....that's all that matters.
We were made.... to do good things. I am learning mine.
Please..... please learn yours.
